Turkey to decrease working hours to curb unemployment, minister says Print E-mail

ImageTurkish Development Minister Cevdet Yılmaz has said the government plans to decrease the maximum hours worked per week by three to four hours in order to boost employment, the Sabah daily reported on Monday.
Yılmaz said current legislation on working hours has prevented a decrease in Turkey's unemployment rate. “There is a system which encourages long working hours rather than more employment. This is not sustainable,” he said.

Turkey Sends Most Workers To Iraq In 2011 Print E-mail

Turkey sent the highest number of workers to Iraq in the first seven months of 2011, according to Turkish Employment Agency (ISKUR).
According to ISKUR's statistics, 5,526 Turkish workers went to Iraq in the first seven months of 2011 with a 113.6 percent year-on-year rise.

The number of Turkish people who went to Iraq to work in 2010 was 5,405.

E-trade Rises, Boosting Employment Print E-mail

ImageEmployment in the e-commerce sector tripled in the first eight months of the year, according to figures by Kariyer.net, Turkey’s largest human resources platform.

Labor demand in the sector has grown 200 percent in the first eight months of 2011, thus providing jobs for some 2,000 people, Kariyer.net’s data showed. E-trade was thus the sector with the highest growth in employment during the period.
